Unleash the Might of the Empire: A Review of the LEGO® Star Wars AT-AT™ (75288)

When I was a kid, Return of the Jedi was my favorite Star Wars movie. I say that because as I got older, I grew to appreciate The Empire Strikes Back more and more. Nowadays, I can firmly say that The Empire Strikes Back isn’t just my favorite Star Wars movie, but my favorite movie period. However, back in the days of my youth, one part of The Empire Strikes Back stood out more than anything else: the Battle of Hoth. It’s a scene that I would watch every time it snowed outside. I’d recreate the battle in the snow, imagining the house was an AT-AT walker. I don’t have to imagine anymore, thanks to LEGO® and the Star Wars AT-AT (75288) set.

Unleash the Imperial walker

The AT-AT, or All Terrain Armored Transport, is an iconic symbol of the Galactic Empire’s military might. In the films, these are massive machines. In LEGO® form, the AT-AT stands tall at over 13 inches (34cm). At this size, the finished product captures the essence of the formidable Imperial war machine. The set consists of 1,267pieces. It’s a bit more advanced than something like the Imperial TIE Fighter or Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing and is rated for ages 10 and older.

design & build quality

The build process is delightful. It’s an engaging experience from beginning to end, with all the steps clearly laid out in the instructions.  Builders will appreciate the attention to detail in the design of the AT-AT. The finished product is sturdy as well, so you can pose it however you wish to for your display. From its imposing exterior to its intricate interior compartments, every aspect of the model exudes authenticity.

features & functionality

This AT-AT set has loads of features and functionality. The head opens from the top, revealing the cockpit where three minifigures can sit. The side panel opens revealing space for three minifigures. The rear of the AT-AT opens revealing storage space for an Imperial Speeder-Bike. Speaking of the Speeder-Bike, it’s included in this set as well. The head features two working cannons. There’s even a functional gear to mimic the grappling hook that Luke Skywalker uses in the film.

The model itself is fully posable. The head can rotate to position it for different attack angles. The legs are fully articulated, allowing for realistic movements and dynamic poses.

Of course, no LEGO® Star Wars set is complete without included minifigures. The Imperial AT-AT is no different. Included in the set is a cast of six minifigures. General Veers comes accompanied by two AT-AT Drivers. Also included are two Snowtroopers. Each of these Imperials come equipped with weapons. Also included is the man himself: Luke Skywalker. He comes not only with his father’s blue lightsaber but also with a thermal detonator. The set also comes with a tripod blaster for one of the Snowtroopers to use.

value & collectability

The price is a bit on the higher end but is expected for a LEGO® set of this magnitude. The LEGO® Star Wars AT-AT (75288) offers excellent value for both collectors and enthusiasts alike. Its impressive size, intricate design, and array of features make it a standout addition to any LEGO® Star Wars collection. LEGO® lists this product as retired, which adds to the collectability of the set.

Conclusion

The LEGO® Star Wars AT-AT (75288) earns its place as a must-have for fans of the Star Wars saga or LEGO® collectors. With its stunning design, impressive features, and array of minifigures and accessories, it’s a worthy addition to any collection. So, join the ranks of the Galactic Empire and unleash the might of the AT-AT to crush those Rebels!
